Many of Jackson’s fans are understandably distrustful of the establishment which repeatedly pursued the star on trumped up charges, but the release of Jackson’s FBI file is no conspiracy. Jackson’s file was requested under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and I was one of those who requested it.

The FOIA allows members of the public to request classified or unattainable information held by any public body. The act is designed to uphold democracy by allowing citizens to scrutinise anything from local government budget reports to dossiers on UFO sightings. Requests can only be turned down for a handful of reasons, including privacy issues and national security.

When I requested Michael Jackson’s FBI file, I wasn’t even sure he had one. If he did, I had no idea what I would find in it. In Sammy Davis Jr’s I found nothing but countless investigations into death threats sent to the singer. In James Brown’s, however, I found an explosive re-telling of his infamous 1988 ‘car chase’, which showed the authorities in a very poor light and contained numerous accusations of police brutality.

The FBI released roughly 300 pages on Jackson, constituting less than half of his overall file. The reason behind the withholding of the other half is yet to be made public, but it most likely consists of information on Jackson’s dealings with still living figures of interest to the bureau – civil rights activists like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, and the various Middle Eastern businessmen and royals Michael Jackson befriended.

The released half of Jackson’s FBI file supports the star’s innocence entirely. Perhaps most notably, a lengthy report shows that when Jackson’s Neverland Ranch was raided in 2003, the FBI went over every computer seized from the property with a fine toothcomb looking for any incriminating files or internet activity. Jackson’s file contained individual summaries of the FBI’s findings for each of the 16 computers. Scrawled in capital letters across each of those 16 reports – ‘NOTHING’.

But not many media outlets included that nugget. In fact, numerous outlets – including the Daily Mail – inaccurately reported that the file did not include the bureau’s findings.

On a more general level, the files reveal that it was not only the Los Angeles Police force which pursued Jackson for more than a decade and failed to produce one itoa of information to connect the star to any crime – it was the FBI too. That Jackson’s life was dissected and his bevahiour was investigated for more than 10 years by two major law enforcement agencies and not one piece of evidence was ever produced to indicate his guilt speaks volumes.

On the whole, the media didn’t quite tell it that way, though.

The FBI file included numerous allegations reported to the bureau which, of course, the media at large bogusly reported as the bureau’s own findings. So here is a breakdown of what the media told you existed in Jackson’s FBI file, and what the file actually contained.

MYTH: Michael Jackson was investigated for possession of child pornography.

FACT: The FBI file includes analysis conducted on a videotape ‘connected to Jackson’ in order to ascertain whether or not it included child pornography. Some media outlets erroneously claimed that the tape had been seized from Neverland. In fact, the tape was seized by customs at West Palm Bach and there is no indication that it ever belonged to Jackson. The file states only that the tape was ‘connected with Jackson’ and the connection appears solely to be that the programme recorded onto the cassette had Jackson’s name in the title.

The FBI file does not contain any indication that the tape included child pornography at all and certainly does not contain any indication that the tape was ever in the possession of Michael Jackson.

But that’s not a particularly media-friendly story; a videotape that didn’t belong to Michael Jackson was analyzed and didn’t have child porn on it. So the media told their own story instead, working on the assumption that nobody would read the files to verify the facts for themselves.

MYTH: The FBI file reveals that Jackson was investigated in 1985 for molesting two Mexican boys.

FACT: An FBI officer recorded an allegation that the bureau had previously investigated Jackson in 1985 for the molestation of two Mexican boys. This allegation was made by an unnamed writer who said the story had been told to him during research for a book. However, the FBI files contain no information whatsoever about any 1985 investigation into Michael Jackson.

Countless media outlets reported this story as the FBI’s own finding when in fact it was merely a baseless allegation made to the bureau by an anonymous source. The FBI found no merit to the allegation:

… but the majority of media outlets failed to mention this important fact. A simple oversight, I’m sure…

MYTH: The FBI found a couple in the Phillippines who witnessed acts of molestation at Neverland.

FACT: This couple – Mark and Faye Quindoy – had worked at Jackson’s Neverland Ranch between 1989 and 1991, but left in a dispute over pay. Between 1991 and 1993 neither ever made any complaint that Jackson behaved inappropriately around any child. However, after the 1993 allegations broke, the Quindoys began selling interviews about Jackson’s alleged improper behaviour.

The pair’s claims were suspect from the outset. They had left Neverland in 1991 in a pay dispute but were now telling tabloids that the reason behind their departure was that they were appalled by Jackson’s behaviour around children – a provable fiction. Besides, if they had been so shocked and appalled by Jackson’s behaviour, why had they not contacted the authorities?

Mark Quindoy’s story changed repeatedly; the more money he was paid for his story, the more appalling the alleged molestation became. The prosecutors in the 1993 Jackson case sent two officers to Manila to interview the couple, but the officers concluded that ‘their testimony was worthless and the credibility of their claims was highly questionable’.

MYTH: The FBI found that Jackson had engaged in phone sex with a British boy.

FACT: This story comes courtesy of The Sun.

The FBI file briefly references a newspaper story in which a man called Terry George claimed that Jackson, aged 19, had engaged in phonesex with him when he was just 13.

The Sun was rather proud that this story was referenced in the FBI file because it was the Sun which published it in the first place. As such, the newspaper was quick to toot its own horn with an ‘FBI investigates Jackson over Sun’s investigation’ type fanfare.

In fact, the FBI did not investigate the claim and to date no evidence has been produced to support Terry George’s story.

In its story about the FBI file, the Sun repeatedly referred to the phonecall between Jackson and Terry George as a matter of fact, even though no evidence has ever been produced to prove that the conversation ever took place.

George is a man of dubious character to say the least, currently owning a string of smutty phonesex companies. His story doesn’t seem to add up, either. Despite Jackson’s supposed inappropriate behaviour, George’s website carries a photograph of himself with the star more than five years after the phonecall allegedly happened. The two still look like firm friends.

In subsequent interviews George has described how he lost touch with Jackson and resorted to behaviour which could be described as stalking – calling the Jackson all the time, hanging around outside his hotels, trying to bluff his way past Jackson’s security. More than anything, George’s interview with the Sun seemed like an act of jealous revenge by an embittered former acquaintance. Either way, the FBI found no merit to George’s claim.

source:

http://charlesthomsonjournalist.blogspot.com/2010/01/fbi-files-support-jacksons-innocence.html

The Mann Act, also known as the ‘White Slavery Act’, was introduced in 1910. Allowing officers to make arrests on the vague premise of ‘immoral behaviour’, the law was frequently used to smear black men, particularly those who consorted with white women.

Jack Johnson, the world’s first black Heavyweight Boxing Champion, was the first person to be prosecuted under the act. In fact, Geoffrey C Ward writes in his book ‘Unforgivable Blackness’ that the potential to smear Johnson had been one of the primary motivating factors behind the introduction of the law.

Johnson was viewed by the press and the establishment as a black man who didn’t know his place. Not only was Johnson a black world champion more than 50 years before segregation was lifted, but he flaunted his success in a society which demanded that he be humble. He wore expensive clothes and jewellery and invested his money in a fleet of luxurious automobiles, a hobby for which he was repeatedly punished by white policemen who issued him with undeserved speeding tickets.

But what riled the establishment more than anything was that Johnson consorted with white women. Johnson was often accompanied on his travels by prostitutes, but so were the majority of his white contemporaries.

In 1913 Johnson was prosecuted under the Mann Act for ‘transporting a female across the state line for immoral purposes’. None of his white contemporaries who also travelled with prostitutes were arrested or charged with similar crimes.

Johnson’s alleged victims had travelled with him willingly and admitted it under oath. Moreover, the trips in question had taken place long before the Mann Act was even introduced. However, an all white jury convicted him regardless.

Years later the Mann Act was also used to sabotage the career of black musician Chuck Berry.

In 1959 Berry met a 14 year old waitress in El Paso and asked her to work as a hat-check girl in his restaurant. The girl agreed and he drove her from El Paso to St Louis on his way back from a concert.

On this flimsy premise Berry was arrested for ‘transporting an underage girl for immoral purposes’. He was convicted under the Mann Act and sentenced to three years in prison.

In the same year Berry’s white copycat Elvis Presley began openly dating Priscilla Beaulieu, a 14 year old girl. Furthermore, Scotty Moore’s biography of Presley asserts that prior to his involvement with Beaulieu, the star had been dating an even younger girl.

Ergo, in 1913 the Mann Act was used to convict a black boxer whose only ‘crime’ was to indulge in the same behaviour as his white conemporaries. Later, In 1959, the Mann Act was used to prosecute a black musician for giving a job to an underage girl, while his white contemporary repeatedly slept with underage girls and went unpunished.

The Mann Act is an inherently racist law. Whilst it has not been used solely to prosecute African-Americans, the potential imprisonment of Jack Johnson was a primary motivating factor behind its introduction and since then it has been repeatedly used to convict black men of crimes that they didn’t commit.

That Jackson was also targeted under the Mann Act is certainly intriguing and only strengthens the argument that he was targeted by a malicious prosecution on account of his race. In a way, it shows that little has changed since the days of Jack Johnson. The United States Attorney’s decision not to prosecute Jackson under the Mann Act could be seen as a sign of progress, but the LAPD’s decision to pursue Jackson in the first place – given the sheer abundance of evidence suggesting his innocence – remains disturbing.

That Jackson wasn’t railroaded once he entered the courtroom is another indicator of progress. Of course, that the 2003 allegations against Jackson even made it into a courtroom was proof in itself that Jackson was given a bum rap – the allegations were nonsensical and his accusers were proven con artists – but while Johnson was found guilty of crimes that he patently did not commit, Jackson’s jury at least made the right decision.

In Jackson’s case it was only the media which tarred him as guilty.

Source: http://charlesthomsonjournalist.blog…o-convict.html

SHARPTON, COCHRAN & MJ GEAR UP TO BATTLE MUSIC BIZ!

On Tuesday July 9, 2002 I attended a music industry summit
in Harlem at the headquarters of the National Action Network. The
Summit was called by Rev. Dr. Al Sharpton, Johnny Cochran, Michael
Jackson and many other prominent people in the entertainment, legal,
and political activist communities.

Contrary to what some of the
media has been reporting, the Summit was not solely for the airing of
grievances by Michael Jackson. As you may or may not know, Michael
recently said some very candid, open and straightforward comments
about the historical racism and economic disparity that is prevalent
in the music industry. This has been extremely detrimental,
specifically to the African-American community who has historically
been at the forefront of innovation in America. One cannot talk about
the history of the United States without talking about the
contributions African-Americans have made. Most notably, all
recognized popular American musical art forms have been created and
developed first from within the African-American community (i.e.
Blues, Jazz, Hip Hop, R&B, Soul etc…)

Our music was often called “race music” by white Americans to
highlight the fact that as a people, the African-American experience
is unique and our expressions culturally rich. Let me emphasize once
again that the focus of this Summit was not on Michael Jackson. No.
The focus of this Summit was on calling attention to the historically
corrupt, exploitative and one-sided business dealings perpetuated by
the music industry. The focus was on what particular strategies can
be implemented to end the injustice.

Let me clear up some of the inaccurate reporting being done by the
larger media outlets.

THE LIES: Michael Jackson is disgruntled because his last musical
project “Invincible” only sold 2 million copies and he is desperately
trying to save his career.

THE TRUTH: Michael informed the audience that Invincible has actually
sold 10 MILLION copies worldwide to date and he is personally
satisfied with the numbers.

THE LIES: Michael has gone crazy and this is just another “bizarre
publicity stunt” to call attention to himself.

THE TRUTH: The larger media outlets have always been fond of attacking
him at random. Michael was in Harlem just 7 weeks ago along side the
likes of former President Bill Clinton at a fundraiser for the
Democratic National Committee and the larger media outlets called him
an ICON then. Why is he “Wacko Jacko” now for bringing up some very
real issues that directly impact peoples lives?

THE LIES: The idea that racism and economic disparity exists in the
music industry is farfetched considering the success of certain
individual artists and people like Will Smith, Mariah Carey, Sean “P
Diddy” Combs etc…

THE TRUTH: There are absolutely no Black owned public relations firms,
travel agencies, advertising agencies etc… that have contracts with
any of the major corporate labels. If $20 million dollars is being
spent on marketing and promotion of an African-American artist or
someone doing a recognized African-American art form, then why have
the talents of African-American business men and women been overlooked
and not deployed to help facilitate the process? Are African-American
businesses unable to effectively market, promote and work in tandem
with any of the major labels? With African-American consumers making
up a large percentage of the buying public through our extensive
spending power, how much of the monies generated from successful
commercial endeavors pushed by the music industry goes back into
African-American neighborhoods? For every Will Smith who has
generated tons of income for his employers you have a multitude of
artists stuck in unfair contracts that find them in debt to their
label for expensive which they have no control or say of.

THE LIES: Many African-Americans in the music industry do not support
this cause.

THE TRUTH: This has been a long-standing concern in the
African-American community. A broad based coalition has already been
mobilized. Some of the supporters who were in attendance included:

Londel McMillan – the legal mastermind who helped Prince free himself
from a horrible contract with Warner Bros. He also represents the
Artist Empowerment Coalition which includes members such as Stevie
Wonder & Chaka Khan.

Terrie Williams – founded the Terrie Williams Agency in 1988 and is
recognized as one of the top public relations and communications
firms. She has written a number of best-selling books and has a
client roster which includes Fortune 500 companies.

Dave Mays – founder of The Source magazine. One of the more popular
and influential publications geared towards Hip Hop music, culture and
politics.

James Mtume – Musician and Producer extraordinaire as well as a
longtime community activist and spokesperson.

Shakim Compere – Manager of Queen Latifah and Flavor Unit Enterprises.

David Patterson – New York State Senator.

Doug E. Fresh – longtime Hip Hop entertainer and grassroots community
activist.

Also in attendance were reps from National Music Distribution, family
members of W.C. Handy (credited with pioneering Blues music), the
daughter of Otis Blackwell (the man responsible for writing many of
the hit records for Elvis Presley) and many others just too numerous
to mention. The room was packed and the media turnout was extensive.
There are many who support the issues being discussed and are
committed to lending support whether quietly behind the scenes or by
more visible and public actions. Look for a possible Class Action
Lawsuit to be filed as well as an upcoming meeting being called with
the heads of the 5 major distributors and their respective label heads
(i.e.. Tommy Mottola, Clive Davis, Doug Morris etc…).

In closing, please don’t believe the false hype and negative media
propaganda tactics deployed by the larger communications outlets.
They are only presenting distorted facts in an effort to discredit
what is credible. They are trying to put the emphasis on a few people
(i.e.. Michael Jackson… who happens to be the best selling artist
of all time and has generated BILLIONS of dollars) to fool you into
believing that this issue is irrelevant and inconsequential to the
lives of the everyday person. If you have any sort of conscious or
soul, please don’t make snap judgments as to the motives of this
movement and the people who are spearheading it. It is really the tip
of the iceberg of a long overdue need to reform how big business
operates in the United States and globally. It is also tied into the
growing Reparations Movement that has also attracted many heavy
hitters (i.e.. Russell Simmons). It is time for this generation to
pick up the torch and continue to build on what our ancestors have
accomplished so far. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. so eloquently
stated, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”. Thank
you for reading and Blessed Love!!

Ayana Soyini, CEO Goldeneyes Entertainment
“Carter said he would drive Jackson to doctor’s offices in New York, Florida and California,” according to the interview, labelled “highly confidential.”

He named “Dr. Klein, Dr. Metzger (unknown spelling), Dr. Barney from Solvang, Dr. Saunders and Dr. Farshchian,” the interview read.

“Carter described Jackson as being sharp and ‘in tune’ prior to the doctor visits and afterward he would be out of it and sedated.”

Dr. Farshchian told Carter that Jackson was addicted to Demerol, but that he’d been trying to wean the entertainer from it.

The police interviews were part of the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department investigation into charges that Michael Jackson had molested Gavin Arvizo, a young man who frequently visited the entertainer with his parents.

Jackson was acquitted of the charges in 2004.

“Dr. Klein” refers to Arnold Klein, the Beverly Hills dermatologist who was Jackson’s longtime caregiver. His assistant, Deborah Rowe, carried two of Jackson’s children.

TheWrap called Klein’s office to ask whether he had illegally prescribed medications.

“We are not making any statement,” said a female employee answering his phones at his Beverly Hills office. The employee hung up when asked if Klein was being questioned by Los Angeles police who are investigating Jackson’s death.

Alex Farshchian’s office did not respond to a message left by TheWrap. The other doctors could not be reached for comment.

Citing an anonymous source, The Los Angeles Times reported that the authorities are investigating five doctors and their treatment of Jackson, which may or may not have had an impact in the singer’s death.

It is not known what involvement the physicians cited in 2004 may have had in the final days of Jackson’s life or if they are part of LAPD probe, which is getting an assist from the DEA and the California Attorney General’s office.

It is a felony to illegally prescribe prescription drugs, meaning to prescribe drugs while knowing the patient is not in need of them for a medical condition. But legal experts say that the crime can be extremely hard to prove.
A preliminary LA County Coroner’s report on death was inconclusive as to cause of death. Toxicology tests on Jackson are expected within several weeks.
TheWrap has reported that the independent autopsy requested by Jackson’s family was, like the L.A.
coroner’s findings, inconclusive.

Another confidential police interview gave further detail into doctors supplying Jackson with prescription drugs. Bodyguard Michael LaPerruque told Santa Barbara detectives that he believed Dr. Farshchian “may have been over prescribing medication.”

LePerruque told detectives that he picked up the prescriptions for Jackson and that they were usually written under the name “Chris Carter.”

“LaPerruque said that there were some doctors that were trying to get Jackson off of Demerol. He said there was one doctor in Santa Barbara that was upset with Jackson because he had been self-injecting.”

Carter told detectives said he would get Xanax prescriptions at pharmacies for Jackson under false names, including his own. Other names used for Jackson’s prescriptions included Frank Cascio, Jesus Salas and Joe Marcus.

“Jackson was taking 10+ Xanax pills a night,” he told detectives. Another employee said this was an improvement, since Jackson was “down from 30 to 40 Xanax pills a night.”

The investigation also included a toxicology report made from a snippet of Jackson’s clothing at the time. The report found that Jackson had four substances in his system: Meperidine (Demerol), Normeperidine, promethazine (an antihistamine) and cocaine.

The 2004 police documents do not mention Diprivan, also known as propofol, a powerful sedative used as an anesthetic, which police some said was in Jackson’s home when he died.

For the full article, click here: <a

The documents also show that the FBI helped facilitate interviews in the Philippines by California authorities investigating Jackson over allegations that he had sexually abused boys.
The FBI monitored Jackson for more than a decade, but the files contain no major revelations about his private life and the bureau apparently never developed any solid evidence against him.

In 2004, the Santa Maria Police Department in California asked for FBI “involvement” after Jackson was arrested for child molestation. Police, according to the FBI, said they believed the court case would be a “soft target” for terrorism because of the “worldwide media coverage” the trial would attract.

The FBI concluded there were no threats, but did note the presence in an early court appearance of “The Nation of Islam, represented by its security unit Fruits of Islam,” and of a New Black Panther Party member whose name was left blank in the files. Jackson used Nation of Islam bodyguards during the legal proceedings.

Back in September 1993, an investigator from the Los Angeles Police Department and another from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office arrived in Manila to speak to two former employees of Jackson’s Neverland ranch who claimed they saw the singer fondle young boys.

Their trip came after the LAPD had asked the FBI if it wanted to work a possible case against Jackson for transporting a minor across state lines for immoral purposes. The FBI checked with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which declined.

The files say an FBI agent accompanied the California officials to the first interview to make sure there were no problems.

The documents, dating from 1992 to 2005, were made public Tuesday through a Freedom of Information Act request from The Associated Press and other media after Jackson’s death June 25, at age 50. The FBI initially said it had about 600 pages in its files but released 333 pages, citing privacy rules and the desire to protect investigative techniques.

In March 2004, the Santa Barbara County district attorney’s office reached out to the FBI, seeking help in developing a strategy to prosecute Jackson for molesting a 13-year-old cancer survivor in the singer’s home. Jackson was acquitted in the high-profile case.

The FBI reviewed case notes from local authorities and examined 16 computers taken from Jackson’s home. Nothing notable was described as being found on the hard drives, though parts of the files are redacted.

The Santa Barbara case was the most recent time the FBI was asked to investigate Jackson but records show the agency had been looking at his alleged involvement with younger boys for more than a decade.

In September 1993, an FBI agent in London told colleagues in Los Angeles that the British press was reporting that a man was making allegations he had held a sexually charged phone call with Jackson in 1979, when the man was 13 and Jackson was 20. Aside from asking the information be passed on to local authorities in Los Angeles, the FBI agent in London noted that no further action was being taken.

In October 1995, the U.S. Customs Service asked the FBI to review a VHS videotape labeled “Michael Jackson’s Neverland Favorites An All Boy Anthology” as part of a child pornography investigation. The recording was of such poor quality that investigators appear to have been unable to determine what was on it.

The files include death threats against Jackson, then-President George H.W. Bush and mob boss John Gotti that led to the 1993 sentencing of Frank Paul Jones, who allegedly was obsessed with Janet Jackson, Michael’s sister.

A letter obtained by the FBI, dated July 6, 1992, states: “I decided that because nobody is taking me serious, and I can’t handle my state of mind, that I am going to Washington D.C. to threaten to kill the President of the United States, George Bush.”

The letter also says, “Michael (Jackson) I will personally attempt to kill, if he doesn’t pay me my money.” One of the documents, written by the L.A. City Attorney’s office, indicated on June 22, 1992, that the author of the letter “arrives in Calif.” and “Threatens to kill.” The FBI includes an interview with an unidentified “victim,” whose name is redacted but presumably Michael Jackson, who states that he was aware of the threats and took them seriously.

According to a 1992 Associated Press story, Jones was arrested June 22 and held on $15,000 bail for investigation of trespassing in the driveway of the Jackson family compound in Encino, Calif. The following year, he was sentenced to two years in prison for “mailing a threatening communication,” according to a 1993 press report included in the FBI files.

source: <a

Segments of the documents released state that the information and investigation pertaining to parts of the investigation were no longer pursued because the FBI found no additional people wanting to testify against Jackson, and there was no substantiated evidence they could find against him.
However, the FBI had been investigating a man who sent death threat letters claiming, “I’ll commit murder at Michael Jackson concert if necessary, in an attempt to murder Michael.”

An arrest warrant was issued in July of 1992 against the suspect. The file reveals that Jackson was the target of threatening letters. The FBI file includes a hand-written death threat letter, targeting Jackson, which was signed by a man using the name “John Gotti.” In the content of his letters, the perpetrator also threatened to kill George Bush. The script seen in the FBI file, was composed using printed letters, rather than cursive writing. The suspect was arrested near the White House after sending numerous death threats in an effort to “get attention,” reveals the file. The suspect was also trying to get onto the grounds of the White House. One of the letters warned Jackson not to make any purchases. One letter says, “Listen to his (Jackson’s) Dangerous recording.”

Jackson’s FBI file mentions a “male” chimpanzee.

Also in the file were fourteen photos of the Jackson family home in Encino, California, which were photographed in 1992.

The subject was placed in custody at L.A. County jail, for terrorist threats, trespassing and stalking. He was placed on $50,000.00 bail, and the trial was scheduled for July, 1992. He had also issued threats that were sent to Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. The maximum amount of time the stalker could receive was a one year sentence, and there was concern that the suspect was a danger to Jackson, as well as to two other individuals.

The files indicate that the arrested individual was a 200 pound black male, arrested for violation of penal code 422, which applies to terrorist threats. A mental health evaluation was also ordered for the prosecuted individual. His girlfriend had broken up with him, and he had sent threatening letters to her, as well. There were between thirty and forty letters sent. The FBI became involved because of the law enforcement agency’s legal involvement with threats sent via postal mail. This is indicated in Title 18, United States Code, Section 876.

On September 7, 1993, the FBI was contacted via telephone by the Los Angeles Police Department, asking for help in investigating Michael Jackson on child abuse allegations. It was requested that a case against Jackson be opened and assigned. The reason the LAPD gave the FBI was “possible federal violation against Jackson concerning the transportation of a minor across state lines for immoral purposes, (MANN Act).” An FBI agent communicated back to the LAPD that she had “checked with her front office, and that they made the decision they were not interested in prosecuting Jackson for the MANN act. She also stated she would not be attended the meeting at the District Attorney’s Office” in Los Angeles.

Jackson’s LAPD report, under the name Michael Joe Jackson, was sent to the FBI, and there were no crimes on it. Jackson had only been involved in a car accident in Santa Barbara, California on April 21, 1991.

A copy of Jackson’s Department of Motor Vehicles application that he filled out for his drivers license in 1985 is also in the FBI file. All of the late pop star’s California addresses are included in the FBI file. Jackson wrote down that his weight was 120 pounds when he filled out his drivers license application. A photo of Jackson’s drivers license, which would expire in 1989, is also included in the FBI file. The drivers license was provided to FBI agents on October 6, 1993.

The FBI kept a trail on Jackson. In the FBI file, there are “investigative notes” that include Jackson sending toys to Australia, his “male” chimpanzee, two round trip tickets to Philadelphia, a reference to American Airlines, extortion attempts against Jackson, and notes that appear to say “second mortgage.”

The FBI started a file on Jackson after child abuse allegations surfaced in Los Angeles. A meeting was held with Gil Garcetti, who was the L.A. District Attorney at the time. Also present were the Head Deputy, Sexual Crimes and Child Abuse Division, investigators from the LAPD and from the Santa Barbara Sheriffs Offfice. The United States Attorneys declared they did not want to participate in the investigation against Jackson at the meeting. An FBI agent offered to follow up and provide leads, and to cooperate with the LAPD.

The LAPD sent two agents to Manila to interview former domestic employees of Jackson, who had worked for him in Santa Barbara. It was also proposed to interview a social worker in Canada “who may have corroborating information about misconduct against Jackson.” According to the FBI file, “Illegal Interception of Communications violations” were reported to the FBI in 1993.

Another meeting was scheduled at Garcetti’s office for September 17, 1993. Officers from the LAPD and the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s department were sent to Manila. A meeting with law enforcement and an attorney whose name, and whose client’s name was redacted from the FBI file was scheduled. A communiqué was sent from the FBI’s Los Angeles field office to the Director of the FBI, labeled as “Priority.”

A task force meeting was held at Garcetti’s office in Los Angeles, and the FBI was advised of the police officers’ trip to Manila, and that they would be staying at the Hyatt Hotel there. A stenographer was requested for the Manila investigation by the Head Deputy, Sexual Crimes and Child Abuse Division. One was provided. The officers flew to Manila. The officers arrived there on September 21, 1993.

The file notes the officers called from Manila and said they felt they had been successful with the first of their interviews.

The FBI file then refers to articles in the British press concerning a “British national who alleges that Michael Jackson made an indecent phone call to him during 1979.” The FBI’s London office said it would take no further action in the matter.

FBI agents dealing with Manila sent media articles about Jackson to an FBI agent back in the States. One article that was reproduced by agents and that is seen in the file is from the Philipine Star, titled “U.S. detectives question Filipino couple on Jackson child abuse charges.” The domestic workers, who were a couple, claimed that Jackson “fondled young boys,” according to the article. A second similar article quoting the couple is also in the file.

On September 2, 1993, the Office of the Legal Attache American Embassy in London, England, sent a letter typed on agency stationary, with the subject line “Michael Jackson: Allegation of Child Abuse; Domestic Police Cooperation.” The letter contains “background information” on the media articles about the “London national” who claimed Jackson had made an indecent statement to him during a phone call.” Interestingly, it is classified on that page of the FB I file as to which agency it is that had “advised that they intend to take no action in this matter, and is providing the information for information only.” The letter concludes “London is taking no further action in this matter.” Enclosed with that letter is an article from the London Daily Mail about a thirteen year-old British Jackson fan, Terance “Terry” George, who claimed that Michael had made a lurid transatlantic phone call to him years before. The article claimed that Jackson’s sister, LaToya Jackson had “expressed concern” about Michael and children.

After the alleged lurid phone call, according to the article, George says he was still pursuing and calling Jackson on the phone, but the calls ended when his parents stopped it, due to the 340 pound phone bill he had rung up contacting Jackson. When Terry would call Jackson collect, Jackson refused to take the calls. Four years later, the boy was still trying to phone Jackson, who would not take the boy’s calls. Eventually, when Jackson was traveling in London, Terance George tracked him down at that point. After being rebuffed by Jackson, the spurned man, who had at that point, reached twenty-eight years old, then went public, making his allegations against Jackson. The LAPD hoped that Terry’s allegations against Jackson would help their case.

On September 3, 1993, the legal Attache in London then sent the media articles to agents in the United States, citing the “Telecommunications Act of 1984” as a possible way to press charges against Jackson.

Los Angeles law enforcement officers then notified FBI agents in New York of their investigation on Jackson. A heavily redacted page of the FBI file appears to ask the New York field office of the FBI if someone whose name is redacted from the file had obtained a restraining order against Jackson. British media articles about Terance George were attached, and it was stated that there was a “task force” created in Los Angeles to investigate Jackson.

On October 19, 1993, New York FBI agents confirmed there were never any restraining orders placed against Michael Jackson there.

On December 27, 1993, a letter was sent from an officer to the agent in charge at the FBI in the Los Angeles bureau. The letter was added to Jackson’s FBI file. It claimed that an individual who stated he was writing a book about Jackson and young boys had contacted an LAPD agent working in the department of sexual abuse against children (SEOC). The person who claimed to be an author of a book, told the SEOC agent that he had information that the FBI had been investigating Jackson in “1895 or 1986,” because Jackson had molested two Mexican boys, but that the FBI had covered it up, because Jackson was slated to receive an award from the White House. According to the individual claiming to be writing a book, the FBI “covered up” the investigation.

Next in the file that was released, a child services worker was on a trip to the Grand Canyon by train, and contacted agents, telling them that Michael had four separate compartments with his adult staff and “a boy ID’d as Michaels “cousin.” As far as the informant’s claims in the file, “Jackson was very possessive of boy at night, and P/R heard questionable noises through wall.” The file then says, “She was concerned enough to notify the conductor of her suspicions.”

At this point, the FBI file notes that the Los Angeles Police Department was “still in the process of deciding whether or not to file charges against Jackson.” The FBI file added that “no outstanding leads” existed. That section of the FBI file states, “The file will be placed in a closed status.” This means there was no more to investigate. That was all the agents had, so it was a closed matter at that point.

On October 23, 1995, a “poor quality,” “third or fourth generation” VHS porn tape labeled “Tozai,” which was in part, marked with the wording “Michael Jackson’s Neverland Favorites An All Boy Anthology,” was obtained. An FBI agent was assigned to verify its authenticity, or to see if it was a porn video someone made spoofing Jackson. It was obtained at customs in West Palm Beach. No connection of ownership or other possession regarding the video is made to Jackson. The tape had been made from several other copied versions, and it had then been converted to Q1 format.

On January 15, 2004, the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s department made a request to the FBI issue a search warrant to obtain sixteen computers and other media owned by Jackson. This opened another file at the FBI pertaining to Jackson. Items subsequently removed from Jackson’s possession included several computers, both Apple and PC. An 18-page string search of several pages showed “nothing.” Forensic material of the data on the computers was acquired by the Los Angeles Field office, some described as “sorted by specimen.” Ultimately, the “disposition” resulted in the following: “CART (Computer Analysis Response Team). Headquarters retains no magnetic media copies of original or derivative evidence for this case.” A letter was then sent from the FBI Los Angeles field office to a detective in Santa Barbara whose name is withheld, stating that the report on the contents of the 16 computers is enclosed. It adds, “In accordance with your request, the examination was done under the investigative supervision of your detectives.”

A copy was sent to Investigative Technology, to the attention of the Forensic Audio Video Image Analysis Unit. The letter discusses conversion formats.

The file continues with a letter on stationary from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department, thanking the Los Angeles Computer Analysis Team at the FBI. The letter is signed by Sheriff Jim Anderson. That letter ends what was declassified from that file on Jackson.

The next file begins with a letter from the Los Angeles unit of the FBI, advising that Santa Barbara Assistant District Attorneys held a meeting with the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). They had flown from Santa Barbara to meet with the agents in Quantico. The agent writing the letter, a Los Angeles agent, says they will fly to interview someone in New York regarding the investigation on Jackson. “Los Angeles assumes travel is approved,” notes Santa Barbara. The name of the person the agent wants to interview is withheld from public release.

One possible person whose name was redacted as far as the New York interview is Macaulay Culkin, who knew the pop star from a young age. The next pages of the FBI file indicate that whoever it was in New York whose name was withheld from the file, who the FBI wanted to interview, said he had no interest in testifying in the Jackson file, and if forced, he would “legally fight any attempt to do so.” The file than said this person, whose name was “believed that he had done his part.” The rest of the page is entirely redacted from public view.

An FBI letter was then sent to the Los Angeles unit of the FBI on December 9. 2004, stating the agent writing the letter “requests that captioned matter be closed. There are no outstanding leads or evidence items.”

Therefore, that file on Jackson was closed.

The final FBI file released on Jackson begins on March 1, 2004. The title is “New Case Requested. Child Molestation Los Angeles.” The Assistant District Attorney from Santa Barbara, California contacted the FBI, requesting that a certain FBI agent be sent to California, “to develop a prosecutive strategy.” The other purpose for the request from the Santa Barbara officers to the FBI agent was to be provided “forensic guidance.” It is mentioned that an upcoming grand jury would be held to decide if there is enough evidence for a case against Jackson.

Los Angeles agents then requested that a new file be open on Jackson in relation to the upcoming “high profile” Santa Barbara trial.

Another document in the file notes that “Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM) assistance have been supplied to the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department and to the Santa Barbara District Attorney’s Office.

It is again noted that Santa Barbara officials have “requested and also received assistance from the (FBI’s) Behavioral Sciences Unit (BAU)) at Quantico.” The FBI file notes that Nation Of Islam’s Fruit of Islam would be providing security for Jackson.” It also reported, “There is no threat of a terrorist act targeting this event.”

In what will be an astonishing revelation to many, the FBI file makes note of the fact that “however,” an individual whose name is withheld from the public is “a known Black Panther Party member,” and “was observed to be present in the crowd during Jackson’s first court appearance, and was attired in black BDUs (NFI).”

The FBI had famously tracked the Black Panthers in the Sixties and the Seventies.

This Examiner.com column was the Friday, April 02, 2004

By Roger Friedman

The list of con men and hustlers who’ve taken advantage of Michael Jackson continues to grow, especially where charity causes are concerned. Jackson has been in Washington this week talking about raising money for new charities, but his old ones are still dogging him.

You will recall that Jackson was involved in something called Heal the Kids with Rabbi “Shmuley” Boteach. I’ve told you before that the most recent filing for Boteach’s charity, L’Chaim Society, under which Heal the Kids fell, listed as one of its directors James Meiskin, a man currently in trouble with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office for extortion.

But it now turns out that when you call the number for the L’Chaim Society, all you get is a recorded message that says the charity is gone and so is the rabbi. There are no forwarding numbers, according to the message. There is an old, non-working number listed in Boston for the man who signed the last L’Chaim Society tax return, one Arash Farin, and no listing anywhere for its other director, Avri Vantman.

You can always hear or see Boteach on TV or radio giving his opinion about something or other and plugging one of his books.

But one thing he doesn’t seem able to opine is where all the money went from the short-lived charity. And one person who might be interested is Denise Rich, who wrote Boteach a check for $100,000 in the fall of 2000 for the L’Chaim Society right around the time Boteach and his then pal Michael Jackson came to two of her own fundraising events.

That $100,000 shows up in the L’Chaim Society’s 2000 tax return. The same return shows no money whatsoever was spent on anything remotely charitable, just salaries and expenses.

Rich, who is the victim in this case, thought she was giving the money to one of Jackson’s charities at the time. But a source of mine who was with Jackson at the time says Jackson never saw the money or the check. It went straight to Boteach and the L’Chaim Society.

Now, there is an even more interesting connection between all these people: Boteach’s American benefactor is famous stock trader and philanthropist Michael Steinhardt. Steinhardt has been one of the staunchest supporters and business associates of Rich’s ex-husband, Marc, a financier convicted of tax evasion and racketeering who was then pardoned by President Clinton in January 2001. Steinhardt lobbied hard for the pardon.

Like Michael Jackson, Steinhardt — whose father was the famous criminal “Red” Steinhardt with heavy ties to the mob and Meyer Lansky — has his own zoo, too. Steinhardt financed Boteach’s mortgage for a $1.5 million home in New Jersey four years ago. Somehow, he managed to get him a cash loan from a local bank. Why did he do it? According to my sources, Boteach may have saved one of Steinhardt’s sons from involvement in a cult, and Steinhardt was grateful. I mean, really grateful.

Yesterday when I spoke with Steinhardt, he denied that either of his sons had had problems with a cult. He said, “I financed Shmuley’s mortgage.” Why? “Because I liked him. And he needed a big house for socializing.”

“He’s an odd figure, Shmuley,” Steinhardt said. “He has good and bad qualities. He’s done things where his judgment is not so good, like being involved with Al Sharpton and Michael Jackson. But his intentions are good.”

Steinhardt voiced surprise that Boteach had been running a L’Chaim Society here in New York for the last several years. And that was kind of interesting since he was one of the forces behind the Boteach/L’Chaim fundraiser in February 2001 at Carnegie Hall that featured a panel discussion on children starring Jackson, game show host Chuck Woolery, and others. The money made from ticket sales that evening has never been accounted for. The organization that hosted it — the Seminar Center — folded soon after.

Boteach — who is banned by the United Synagogues in Great Britian from having a pulpit — is best remembered for a quote he gave the London Independent in 1996. He said there is an 11th, unwritten Commandment: “Thou shalt do anything for publicity and recognition.”

source: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,115965,00.html

The Observer, Sunday 5 September 1999

For an orthodox Jewish rabbi, Shmuel Boteach has an unorthodox way of doing things. The New York-educated cleric drinks vodka, allows non-Jews to join his Oxford-based debating society and sees nothing wrong in using Playboy magazine to push his ideas on ‘kosher’ sex. He is also on first name terms with Mikhail Gorbachev and former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres.

But this weekend it is not Boteach’s radical approach to spreading Hasidic Jewish teaching that is shocking British Jewry so much as allegations about the activities of his Oxford University L’Chaim Society and its associated charitable trust.

L’Chaim is Hebrew for ‘to life’. And according to the 32-year-old rabbi’s detractors, Boteach – ‘Shmuley’ to his friends – has taken the society’s philosophy too literally.

Last week the Charity Commission froze the trust’s bank account, citing concerns about ‘the application and control of the charity’s funds’.

The commission wants to question trustees about payments to meet the mortgage on Boteach’s £400,000 home in north London. The Observer has also learnt that Boteach and his family have the run of a large house in Oxford, albeit thanks to the generosity of an unnamed Israeli benefactor.

Perhaps most damaging are reports of widespread staff disaffection with Boteach’s management style amid allegations that while fund-raising for Jewish causes he has been using employees of L’Chaim to promote the financial interests of major donors.

According to documents obtained by The Observer, in June 1997, Boteach’s then executive assistant at the L’Chaim Society, Esther Flint, wrote to Rabbi J. Gutnick, a multimillionaire, in Melbourne, Australia, offering to help him in ‘developing awareness’ in Britain of his mining projects. The letter began: ‘I understand that a significant element of the job is devoting time to promoting your companies to the financial markets of UK and Europe. Therefore Rabbi Boteach thought it pertinent I contact you in order that I may introduce myself.’

Soon after, Flint resigned. Boteach acknowledges that Gutnick, who made his fortune in gold mining, was a key donor but claims Flint’s offer was never taken up. ‘There was no question of a tit for tat arrangement,’ he told The Observer .

The Charity Commission is pressing ahead with a formal investigation and has asked to meet the trustees this week to clarify a series of transactions – including cheques drawn on the trust’s account for Boteach’s salary and payments for this year’s fund-raising dinner and a car pool for L’Chaim employees.

Boteach says L’Chaim’s trustees took legal advice before setting up the trust account to meet the mortgage payments on his London home and were assured that it conformed to charity regulations. He maintains that the house was being used for fund-raising dinners and charity-related work.

According to Boteach, the investigation is little more than a ‘witchhunt’ got up by his enemies in the Jewish establishment who have always disapproved of his talent for self-promotion. But former employees tell a different story, claiming his private face is at odds with the engaging image he presents in the media and on chat shows like Oprah Winfrey’s.

They say Boteach makes impossible demands on staff and when they fail to meet expectations they are sacked or persuaded to resign. In one two-year period, Boteach dismissed six directors of the Oxford society, accusing each of gross misconduct. The allegations were strenuously denied and one former director is now threatening to sue for libel over alleged comments Boteach made to the chairman of the trust’s governors, Michael Sinclair.

As long as Boteach attracted speakers like Gorbachev, Peres and Diego Maradona to Oxford, and the donations continued to pour in, he continued to enjoy the confidence of the trustees. By 1995 the turnover from L’Chaim events was £183,000 – far more than any other Oxford student society – and two years later donations to the trust totalled £450,000.

But by now the university proctors were becoming concerned that L’Chaim was being run as a business and no longer complied with the membership rules for a student society. As a result, Boteach wound down L’Chaim’s Oxford activities and began spending more time in London.

By 1998 he was riding high. His first book, The Jewish Guide to Adultery, giving Talmudic advice on how to improve one’s marriage, had been serialised in the Daily Mail and he had just sold his second, Kosher Sex , to Playboy for a reported £200,000.

Then, last April, Katrin Levy, a journalist on a north London Jewish newspaper, began to investigate reports of staff disenchantment. Instead of publishing her findings she decided to show them to the paper’s proprietor – Michael Sinclair, chairman of L’Chaim’s board and Boteach’s boss. ‘By going to Sinclair I hoped he would investigate the allegations and act on them,’ says Levy.

The next day Levy was told to hand her documents back to Boteach. She refused and went to the police, who passed the documents to the Charity Commission, triggering this week’s events. Levy subsequently left her job.

Sinclair declined to comment to The Observer. Instead, the trustees issued a statement claiming the allegations were ‘utterly without foundation’ and the society had done ‘absolutely nothing wrong’. But the damage to Boteach’s reputation may have already been fatal.

Yesterday the Chief Rabbi’s office told The Observer that although Boteach had been invited to participate in an end of Sabbath prayer service at the prestigious New West End synagogue in central London, he did not possess the appropriate United Synagogue rabbinical ‘practice certificate’.

Boteach said: ‘This is an ongoing attempt to silence individuals like myself who have never been accepted by the mainstream Jewish establishment.’

source: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/1999/sep/05/theobserver.uknews1
<div
