Was the coverage around Michael’s death over the top?
At the weekend they ran pictures of the bed where he apparently passed away. The intrusion into his life after death is as great as it was when he was alive. He was always concerned about his privacy and media intrusion and he despised the tabloids for it. Obviously, they are doing that even more so now and I can only hope his children are shielded from it.
Where were you when you found out about his death and what was your reaction?
I was at home and could not believe it. I knew he had been taken to hospital but I thought it was just exhaustion and not as serious as it turned out. It took a while to sink in; even when it was announced he had died, I still didn’t believe it. Being surrounded by his music constantly, it still feels like he is with us in spirit and I think he is a bigger star now in passing than he was before.
You went to the US for the tribute. Your thoughts?
It was good to be there. It was very emotional. I’m glad I went, I got to meet the family and have some time with Paris, who gave a very moving speech. It reminded people Michael was first and foremost a father figure. She is adorable, I gave her a copy of my book and she was very grateful. They have been brought up very well.
Are the children biologically Michael’s?
All I know is that Michael raised them 24/7, he was very much their father and the children adore him. They miss him very much obviously. The public and media perception of Michael is very different to the real person, who I spent a lot of time with. The person I met was caring and always liked to laugh. He was a genius in the studio and I don’t think he got enough credit for that when he was alive. People focused mainly on the headlines.
Lisa Marie has said he was much different in real life; that his voice was deeper and he was more regular. Was that true?
He was very aware of his image in public. I met him when he was with Lisa Marie and, again, the perception was that it was a fake relationship but it wasn’t. On the occasions I met them, they were very protective of each other. She asked Michael who I was and why I was there and he comforted her that I was a trusted person and then she opened up. They were like a normal couple. He would ask her opinion of his songs and play with her children. The Michael I knew was regular person away from the cameras but very shy.
What was it like the first time you met him?
I didn’t know what to expect. You have a press perception of what Michael is like and he is a massive superstar. The first time I met him, he came into a recording studio, he had no make-up on and he invited me to Neverland for the weekend.
How old were you?
I started the Off The Wall fanzine when I was 19 and he invited me over when I was 21. I have a lot to thank him for, I did not think I would start a fanzine and go on to produce a West End show. He was the inspiration and I took perfectionism from his lead. He told me to always do the best I could. He could be a tough person when he needed to be. He took a lot of knocks but always got back up again.
What are your thoughts on the paedophilia allegations?
The Michael Jackson I spent time with was an innocent man.
Would you have been comfortable to leave your children with him for the night?
I have a daughter and I have been to Neverland many times. My daughter has sleepovers and Michael was a great father. If you know someone and trust them and feel comfortable then I do not see anything wrong with it.

Miko Brando, son of actor Marlon Brando, has been friends with Michael Jackson for over 25 years. Miko will be a guest on LKL tonight. Miko’s commentary is an LKL Web Exclusive.
Michael was my idol. He’s been my father figure since my father died. It’s strange living without him. I will never be the same, and I don’t know if I’ll ever get over this loss. It’s like losing your companion, someone you always thought would be there. It’s just not right. He meant a lot to me. I feel like a different person than I was before Thursday. I feel numb — lost. He was a good friend for so many years. I treasure the time I spent with Michael. We’d go shopping together, go to Disneyland, take trips, spend time at Dad’s house. He’d just come over and set up camp at my dad’s house for a while. I enjoyed talking about music, eating together and having fun with Michael. We were just good friends, that’s the best way I can put it. He was always there for me when I needed him, and I’d like to think I was always there for him. I don’t really have a single memory of Michael that sticks out. It’s hard to do when you’ve been friends as long as we have. My best memories are of the time we spent talking, him hugging me, having good conversations, and making him laugh — I really enjoyed making him laugh. I could say some things — just a few words in his ear, and I could get a laugh out of him. And boy, did he have an infectious laugh. Above all, Michael was a very caring person. He had a lot of love in his heart. He cared about everybody, especially the people on the street. He wasn’t stuck up — he had no ego, and he tried to make time for everybody because he didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. If he thought he did something wrong, it would really bother him. He had more love than anyone I know. The Michael I saw everyday was one that loved his kids. They were his main focus. He was a very busy man, but he always made sure the kids were being looked after. What a lot of people may not realize about Michael, is how good a businessman he was. The tour he was planning is a perfect example. He was a perfectionist, and he knew exactly what he wanted and how to get it. Everything regarding the tour had to be approved by Michael. Just because he hasn’t been on TV or out in public a lot recently, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t busy and active. A lot of people have speculated he was really stressed over the tour, but I don’t think he was. He went through the same routines he did for past tours. I’ve thought about whether there were any similarities between Michael and my dad, and I cannot think of a single one. You’ve heard opposites attract? I think that explains their friendship. They had absolutely nothing in common, but when you got them together, you couldn’t tear them apart. He loved my dad, and they spent many days together at Dad’s house and at Neverland. They were very close. Michael was instrumental helping my father through the last few years of his life. For that I will always be indebted to him. Dad had a hard time breathing in his final days, and he was on oxygen much of the time. He loved the outdoors, so Michael would invite him over to Neverland. Dad could name all the trees there, and the flowers, but being on oxygen it was hard for him to get around and see them all, it’s such a big place. So Michael got Dad a golf cart with a portable oxygen tank so he could go around and enjoy Neverland. They’d just drive around — Michael Jackson, Marlon Brando, with an oxygen tank in a golf cart. Some of the best times I spent with Michael were just sitting on a bench at Disneyland’s “Main Street.” We would just sit there and people watch. Sometimes Michael would be in a getup so people wouldn’t recognize him — but they always did. When he was in a bad mood or a little down, I’d just say “Michael, the bench,” and that would bring him out of it. If I knew he wanted to have fun, or just get away, I’d say “let’s go to the bench,” and we were gone. Of course, Michael Jackson in a public place like Disneyland was bound to draw crowds, and sometimes we would have park security with us. But they weren’t there to protect Michael, they were there to protect the crowds. He was never really concerned about himself, but that someone would get hurt in the crush of people that wanted to see him. People would just go crazy when they saw Michael Jackson. Michael rarely cried, but I think he’d be in tears over the reaction to his death. He’d be overwhelmed and happy that so much of the love he gave was returned by the people he loved. I think he’d take a deep breath and just say thank you. The family is still planning the funeral, but I think Michael would want it to be a celebration. He would want everybody there. He loved his fans. I’ve been around plenty of big movie stars, but Michael’s fans are beyond fans. He knew the fans were what made him, and he wouldn’t want to leave anyone out. Everywhere he went, fans would be there. He’d tell me the fans always knew what he was doing. I don’t think anyone has ever had fans like that. So Michael would want a funeral that included his fans and made them happy. He would want it to say: “I’m still with you and we’ll always be together.” He was happy, and he wanted to make everybody around him happy. Finally, he would want love. Above all, Michael was about love.

The petition text written by the author of the petition:
I have started this petition in hopes it will get enough signatures for Michael Jackson to consider singing the song “Heal The World” in memory of James Bulger at one of his upcoming London, UK shows. I am also hoping it will bring attention to a very important cause in James’s memory. The signatures collected will be sent to Michael Jackson’s Production company, MJJ Productions before July 2009 when his tour begins. For those unfamiliar with the case, James Bulger was a 2 year old boy that was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by two 10 year old boys in Liverpool, England on February 12th 1993. According to James’s mother Denise, his favorite song was “Heal The World” and James used to dance like Michael Jackson. In 2008 when James would have turned 18 years old, Denise helped start a campaign to open a Red Balloon Learner Centre in Liverpool for children so badly bullied they can no longer attend mainstream school. The school is to be named James Bulger House. Please sign my petition in honour of James Bulger and his family. I would also like to mention that James’s mother Denise will be attending one of Michael Jackson’s concerts this summer so please help make this a reality! Thank you!”

A Facebook campaign has been launched to ask Michael Jackon to dedicate a song to murdered Liverpool toddler James Bulger. The ‘Thriller’ singer is due to perform around 20 shows in London’s O2 Arena and a petition has started to try and persuade Jacko to devote ‘Heal the World’ to the memory of James. Tickets for the pop icon’s concert comeback tour sold out in just six hours and many more are fetching more than ã1,000 each on Ebay. The creator of the Facebook group is Canadian, Ali Lightfoot. She says she has been profoundly touched by the Bulger story despite living thousands of miles away from Liverpool. And she wants to raise awareness for James’s mother Denise Fergus’s long running charity work by getting 50-year-old Jackson to dedicate a track to her and her son. Campaign creator Ali Lightfoot said: “Although I am a Canadian, I have been so profoundly touched by James Bulger’s story. “So I’ve decided to help raise awareness for his mother, Denise Fergus’s campaign to open a Red balloon Learner Centre in Liverpool. “Since Michael Jackson was James’s favourite singer I thought why not try to get MJ involved somehow and hopefully bring attention to Denise’s cause? “‘Heal The World’ was also James Bulger’s favourite song and it would be such an honour for James’s family if it was dedicated to him. “Denise Fergus and her husband Stuart are in full support of this petition and have even joined my Facebook group. “I would love it if I could help get more signatures to help bring some happiness to Denise’s life after her terrible loss.” James’s mother Denise Fergus has been a life long fan of Michael Jackson and thinks the campaign is a great idea. Denise said: “I have been a fan of Michael since I was a school girl. “I think he is great and a brilliant performer. “‘Heal the World’ was played a James’ funeral and it will always be one of my favourite Michael Jackson songs. “It would be great if Michael could sing it in memory of him, I hope people get involved and sign the petition.”

June 13th , 2005 – Michael Jackson was acquitted on all 10 counts!
The Gardner School, at which he was enrolled as student shortly before his career started, honored Michael Jackson in 1989 by naming the auditorium after him. Therefore he showed up at the ceremony on October 11th, 1989 and thanked personally with a short speech.
While the case was heard the Gardner School has covered his name with a plywood box. Understandable, considering the situation at that time.
But after the acquittal the name wasn’t uncovered (until NOW!). This isn’t only an inappropriate (non-)action of the school, but even a wrong sign in public.
It’s a sign of callousness on the part of the school, a sign of disrespect and intolerance.
It is the duty of such institutions to build the children’s character and to impart knowledge. Therefore it is necessary to handle such issues very sensitively.
Now it’s our part to do something! To point out this problem to the Gardner School and hopefully to uncover Michael Jackson’s name, you easily can print out the logo of this campaign (this should demonstrate the international character of this mission.), glue it on a postcard and send it to the Gardner School. But don’t forget to sign up the online petition!

To: All Michael Jackson Fans Worldwide!
Dear Michael Jackson fans worldwide,
I hope this petition will reach all of you, as we will need to work together if we want this to succeed.
As all of you will already know, people will never leave Michael Jackson alone.
The press is making up the most ridiculous stories, and why?
Horrible people are bringing out the most terrible lies, and why?
Because they are all after Michael’s money and because he is an easy target.
Michael has been proved innocent, but still, people are calling him the most ugly names and are still hunting him down for those cases (which are again: filthy lies).
It needs to STOP, and it needs to stop right now!
The world needs to know that the fans don’t take it anymore! We do not accept the lies anymore. Michael is not an animal! He is a sweet, caring and loving person. He has done more for charity then any other celebrity. He deserves our respect more then any other person on earth.
Please sign this petition if you agree to the following points:
* Leave Michael Jackson alone, stop attacking him! This includes the press too!
* Stop the most filthy lies and rumors.
* We want this website (http://www.childrenhatemj.net) and all other similar ones to be removed from the internet!
* We want Ian Halperin to offer his apologies to Michael Jackson! Where does he got the nerve to offer Michael a “free” medical investigation? Michael does not have to prove anything. And after all he has been trough with the cases, how dare you, Ian Halperin? Find a better way to promote your book next time!
* We want Michael to receive the respect he deserves, because we want our King of POP back!
To all fans:
All of you have always been supporting Michael, in good and bad times.
Still, they won’t leave him alone!
Unite your voices, we are stronger together and stronger then ever.
The world needs to hear what we are saying.
The press should not only publish bad news about Michael, they should publish the good news too.
So I ask you to sign this petition and to join us, if you agree to the above points.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
